Cherry BottomEvent Information

“Wa Izakaya-Themed Pub Night” is a fundraising event for earthquake relief in Japan, featuring a collaboration of International Students Group (ISG) and Japanese Network (JN). This event aims to bring unity back to our Simon Fraser Community in providing a socially friendly environment to all students, locally, nationally and internationally, for a good cause.

The goal of this “Wa Izakaya-Themed Pub Night” is to not only benefit victims affected by the Asia-Pacific earthquake and tsunami in Japan, but also to provide a fun and fulfilling experience for SFU students. By participating in this event, students are able to contribute towards a good cause for humanity, while having a good time at the local Highland Pub. All profits generated from the event will be donated to the Japanese Red Cross. Students who attend the event can be a part of an organized effort to make the world a better place, one step at a time. In addition, attendees have the opportunity to be exposed to an event reflecting Japanese culture, something that is not readily available even in our diversified culture.

Cherry BottomFood

Food will be served by the Highland Pub. According to the agreement with the Pub, the kitchen will be open at night at the students’ convenience.

Guests who purchase our "Early Bird All-inclusive Admission" will receive our special meal of the day: a burger and a can of pop of your choice.

Cherry BottomBackground Information

On March 11, 2011, Japan was hit by one of the largest earthquakes ever recorded. The magnitude-9.0 quake spawned a deadly tsunami that slammed into the small island nation, leaving a huge swath of devastation in its wake. Thousands of people are dead and many more are still missing or injured; almost half a million people are homeless.

It has been a month after the Japan Earthquake but we want to let everyone know: We never forget Japan!

On the other side of the world in the beautiful British Columbia, a group of Simon Fraser University students from International Student Group, and Japanese Network, decided to organize a meaningful schoolwide pub night event to fundraise for Japan in their after-disaster recovery.

We want to let people know:

"Attending this event would not only enrich your university experience, but also help others on the other side of the world."

"A sense of unity does exist at Simon Fraser University. The purpose is to help everyone in the community."
